A Plum police officer and a pizza delivery guy rescued a resident from his burning home Saturday night.

Holiday Park Fire Chief Jim Sims said crews were dispatched to a fire around 7:10 p.m. along the 9200 block of Wedgewood Drive.

He said a man delivering pizzas noticed the fire and called 911.

Officer Eric Brandt and the worker made entry into the home and were able to evacuate the man. He was taken via ambulance to Forbes Hospital in Monroeville and later via helicopter to West Penn Hospital.

Sims said the man suffered from smoke inhalation. The man’s condition and name of the pizza delivery man was not available.

Firefighters had the fire under control within about 30 minutes.

Sims said the home sustained extensive fire damage to the first floor and smoke damage throughout the building. The Allegheny County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating.

Initial reports indicate it is not suspicious.
