Oakmont police has a new full-time officer.

Mayor Christopher Whaley swore in patrolman Tyler Jaecke, 29, of Plum at Tuesday night’s meeting.

“I like the area. I like the community,” Jaecke said. “I’d really like to work here. I knew some of the guys that worked here already, and they said it was a great department to be in. So far, I’m definitely not disappointed.”

Council hired Jaecke in January at a starting wage of just under $35 per hour.

He started Feb. 1 and was supposed to be sworn in at last month’s council meeting. The ceremony was postponed due to inclement weather.

Police Chief Michael Ford said Jaecke is fitting in well with the department.

“He’s very personable and community oriented,” the chief said.

Oakmont has eight full-time officers, including Ford and Jaecke, and five part-time officers.

Jaecke, a 2010 North Allegheny High School graduate, worked for Carnegie Mellon University as a security guard for a little more than two years and as a university police officer for three years prior to accepting the Oakmont job.

He also served as a military police officer for the Marines from 2014-2019.

Oakmont is among several police departments involved in the East Hills DUI Task Force.

They do roving patrols and other educational enforcement activities.

Jaecke said he is interested in working those details.
