Friends of the Riverfront meets

Friends of the Riverfront is working with Verona, Oakmont, Plum and Penn Hills to develop a safe, accessible and sustainable multi-purpose trail stretching from the Allegheny Riverfront in Verona, through Oakmont and Penn Hills along Plum Creek, to Boyce Park in Plum. The plan is being conducted by TransSystems.

Initial traffic studies have been conducted, and a public meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Jan. 19 at Steel City Rowing, 101 Arch St., Verona. For more information, visit friendsoftheriverfront.org.

Plum hearings for dangerous structures

Plum Borough Council will hold hearings at 6 p.m. Jan. 30 for testimony on structures that have been declared dangerous by the borough engineer.

The properties are 7906 Saltsburg Road (852-K-127), 488 New Texas Road (1102-N-63) and 247 Francis Road (851-P-327).

The hearings will be held in the council chambers of the Plum Borough Municipal Building, 2000 Old Mine Road. All are invited to attend.

Senior driver courses offered

Seniors For Safe Driving is offering senior citizen driver improvement courses to help motorists understand how aging affects driving abilities and prove insight about navigating today’s roads.

The PennDOT-approved courses are designed for drivers age 55 and older, and include no testing or behind-the-wheel driving. As mandated by Pennsylvania law, those who complete the courses receive a multi-year discount on auto insurance.

Upcoming courses include:

• Plum Senior Center, 499 Center New Texas Road, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 10.

• Penn Hills Senior Center, 147 Jefferson Road, 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. March 14.

• Forbes Hospital Learning Room #1, 2570 Haymaker Road, Monroeville, 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. March 24.
