Like many areas of the Alle-Kiski Valley, Plum says it’s experiencing a “significant salt shortage” ahead of what’s expected to be an intense winter storm this weekend.
That leaves the borough’s plow and salt crews to prioritize hills, intersections and “other critical locations” for maintenance, according to a statement from the borough.
Plum is looking at “all available options” to boost its salt reserves, but crews will still plow streets throughout the storm, the statement said.
In the meantime, the borough is asking residents to avoid unnecessary travel.
Parking on borough roads with “No Parking/Winter Maintenance” signs or depositing snow onto borough roadways is restricted, the statement said.
The snowstorm is expected to begin Saturday night and continue through Monday. It could dump more than a foot of snow throughout the region.
