Plum School District recently was recognized as a Champion District by an international technology company based in the nation’s capital.

“This honor is provided by EVERFI, a digital education organization focused on helping educators address the most challenging issues affecting society, including financial literacy, social-emotional learning, health and wellness, inclusion, and college and career readiness,” said Alyssa Lyons, the company’s director of K12 implementation for Pennsylvania and West Virginia.

“The EVERFI Champion Seal is a designation awarded to K-12 school districts and individual schools that have demonstrated an exemplary commitment to whole-child education through the use of EVERFI’s comprehensive, evidence-informed digital programs. This recognition acknowledges the district’s dedication to transformational change in the interest of equity and the well-being of all students.”

This is the first year for the award. Fewer than 5% of districts across the nation were selected.

Lyons said Plum was selected based on its “student knowledge growth within the programs and the district’s dedication to ensuring all Plum students have similar learning experiences during the 2019-20 school year.”

Plum school board President Mike Devine knows the administration and teachers work very hard to provide students the best education and resources to succeed.

“Any time we are recognized, it’s a great honor,” Devine said. “Being a Champion District shows that we are continuing to move in the right direction, and that entities from outside of Plum see the strides we are making.”

Other local districts given the honor include Avonworth, Baldwin-Whitehall, Butler Area, Carlynton, Deer Lakes, Freeport Area, Laurel Highlands, Mars Area, Montour, Moon, New Castle, Northgate, South Fayette and West Mifflin Area.
