Riverview High School to collect food, promote student wellness with Turkey Trot
Riverview Junior/Senior High School students will run, jump, climb and crawl their way through obstacle courses and other feats of strength all to help bring in food for needy families.
The third annual Turkey Trot is set for 12:45 p.m. Tuesday at the high school in Oakmont and in the adjacent Riverside Park.
Families are encouraged to bring nonperishable food items to the school, at 100 Hulton Road.
The collection benefits the Verona United Methodist Church’s branch of the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank.
“It’s a good time of the year for it,” school board President Maureen McClure said. “I think it’s great for the community to have this nice combination of doing good and doing wellness.”
The schoolwide health and wellness event features three stations. Students who complete at least two of them will be entered into a drawing to win a $100 Amazon gift card donated by Oakmont Councilwoman Carrie DelRosso.
“It’s important for our Riverview community to support health and wellness programs along with giving back to those in need during the holiday season,” DelRosso said.
Riverview partnered with the Marines to facilitate boot camp exercises for students designed to foster team building and improve strength. Other stations for students include yoga.
All junior and high school students have been invited to participate.
