Riverview High's second graduation event canceled due to Allegheny County covid-19 restrictions
Riverview School District officials have canceled another graduation celebration because of covid-19 restrictions.
The Allegheny County Health Department recently instituted regulations limiting gatherings of people indoors to 25 and outdoors to 50 as a result of increased coronavirus cases the past week or so.
School district administrators had hoped to provide an additional graduation event July 17 in addition to their June 9 ceremony at Riverside Drive-in in Parks Township.
But celebrations will have to end there, as officials announced Thursday that this month’s activity will not be rescheduled.
Principals Eric Hewitt and Neil English broke the news to families and graduates in a letter posted on the district’s Facebook page.
“We know that many of you were looking forward to this additional celebration as we were,” the letter read, in part. “However, we must follow the county order, keep the health and well-being of the graduates and guests as our central focus, and begin our preparation for a challenging school reopening in a few short weeks.”
