Several school buses were involved in a crash Friday, Sept. 19, 2025, on the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Plum.

Two school buses transporting the North Allegheny marching band were involved in a crash Friday evening on the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Plum while traveling to an away football game.

A message was sent to all high school parents following the accident by Superintendent Brendan Hyland, who said while there were no noticeable injuries, students were evaluated by EMS.

“In an abundance of caution, six students were transported to local hospitals with minor injuries, and two adults who were evaluated also chose to go to the hospital,” he wrote. “All other students were treated and released.”

Hyland said the parents of the students transported were “promptly contacted.” The Transportation Department also contacted the parents of all students on both buses to make them aware of the incident, he said.

TribLive news partner WTAE’s news chopper flew over the scene in Plum and broadcast video of two buses and the North Allegheny High School band equipment truck pulled over at the turnpike’s Oakmont Plum Service Plaza with several students standing around the vehicles.

North Allegheny’s football team was playing Norwin High School Friday night. The team was already at the stadium when the crash happened, at about 5:45 p.m.

State police didn’t immediately release further information.

“The North Allegheny School District genuinely appreciates the professionalism of all of the responders, band volunteers, and district band personnel,” Hyland wrote. “Thank you for your concern and support.”
