Two Plum High School Air Force Junior ROTC cadets were awarded the military branch’s Chief of Staff scholarship.

Seniors Alexandra Ralph and Carter Campbell both will receive $20,000 for room, board, flight time, flight suits and other related costs as they attend a credited aviation university and go for their private pilot licenses this summer.

Col. Richard Peterson, who oversees Plum’s program, said there were 150 scholarships given out by the Air Force through its Junior ROTC with more than 880 schools and 2,000 cadets competing for the slots.

The cadets wish to attend Emory Riddle Aeronautical University in either Dayton Beach, Fla. or Prescott, Ariz.

The Air Force will let them know which university they will be assigned in April.

Peterson and other district officials recognized the students for their achievement at a recent school board meeting.
