Pittsburgh Pirates fans will be “out” of any chance to go into the PNC bank branch at the namesake ballpark on the North Shore after this season because that office is closing.

PNC Financial Services Group Inc. said it will close its branch at 107 Federal St. on Sept. 23, which is in the midst of the Pirates’ next-to-last homestand.

PNC said that it understands the Pirates want to use the space occupied by the branch for a future ballpark enhancement project, said Olivia Lammel, a PNC Bank spokeswoman. The ballpark branch will be consolidated with PNC’s Three PNC Plaza branch less than a mile away at 225 Fifth Ave. in Downtown Pittsburgh, Lammel said.

Brian Warecki, the Pirates’ senior vice president for communications, could not be reached for comment Tuesday.

Even though the branch will close, PNC will maintain an ATM near the Federal Street branch office as well inside the ballpark, Lammel said.

In closing the PNC Park branch, Lammel said PNC routinely evaluates its network of branches and other available methods of banking to determine if the bank is most effectively meeting customer needs.

“These evaluations are complex and incorporate a number of different factors that inform our decisions about moving forward with branch consolidations,” Lammel said.
