PNC Park hosts 2nd mass covid-19 vaccination clinic
About 3,500 high-risk Allegheny Health Network patients from throughout Western Pennsylvania got their first covid-19 vaccinations Saturday at PNC Park in Pittsburgh.
The participants in the second large-scale coronavirus vaccine clinic held at the baseball stadium by AHN, a Highmark Health company, pre-registered for the vaccinations. No walk-up business was allowed.
“Following our incredibly successful first vaccination clinic at PNC Park earlier this month, we are extremely pleased to be able to hold a second clinic (Saturday) that will make the vaccine available to thousands of additional high-risk patients,” said Cindy Hundorfean, AHN president and CEO.
More than 2,500 high-risk seniors 75 and older were vaccinated at a clinic at the stadium Feb. 6. Those patients will return to PNC on Feb. 27 for their second doses, AHN officials said.
Recipients at Saturday’s clinic will return for their second doses March 13.
With the continuing limited supply of the COVID-19 vaccine, AHN is currently holding appointment-only vaccination clinics. Those who have an AHN MyChart account will be alerted when a vaccine is available to them for scheduling.
As vaccine supply allows, the health network will also activate a scheduling portal on its website, ahn.org/coronavirus/vaccine, for those who are eligible to receive the vaccine based on the Pennsylvania Department of Health’s eligibility phases.
To ensure both speed an equitable distribution of the vaccine, AHN will continue to target the most vulnerable populations, including marginalized communities which have been most acutely impacted by the pandemic.
