A Mt. Washington teenager died soon after being shot multiple times just before midnight Sunday in Pittsburgh’s Homewood South neighborhood, officials said.

Robert Cade, 18, was pronounced dead shortly before 1 a.m. Monday, less than an hour after he was injured amid more than a dozen rounds of gunfire in the 7400 block of Tioga Street, according to Pittsburgh police and the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Police now are investigating the shooting that killed Cade as a homicide, Public Safety officials said in an update to their media blotter Monday afternoon.

Pittsburgh Police from Zone 5 responded to Tioga Street in response to a ShotSpotter alert for 13 rounds fired, according to Pittsburgh Public Safety Spokeswoman Cara Cruz. First responders found the man in the street with multiple gunshot wounds, Cruz said.

He was rushed to UPMC Presbyterian hospital in critical condition before dying of the gunshot wound injuries at 12:51 a.m., the medical examiner’s report shows.

Police have not released any possible suspects or pending charges or arrests as of late Monday.

No further information was immediately available.
