Police apprehend Pittsburgh man accused of beating woman with a tire iron after escaping house arrest
A suspect accused of beating a woman with a tire iron earlier this year after escaping from house arrest was apprehended Tuesday evening.
The Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office announced that sheriffs picked up Richard Robinson, 52, of the Marshall-Shadeland neighborhood of Pittsburgh.
Robinson had been wanted since Jan. 26 on three criminal bench warrants stemming from a bond violation stemming from a robbery last year.
He also faced a new arrest warrant from Pittsburgh police in connection with an incident on Jan. 24, 2021.
Robinson was placed on house arrest while awaiting trial on the robbery charges when he fled.. While on the run, Robinson allegedly beat a woman over the head with a tire iron in Homewood on Jan. 24.
City police charged Robinson with two counts of aggravated assault.
On Tuesday afternoon, sheriff’s deputies were informed that Robinson was at UPMC Shadyside hospital. Deputies located Robinson — still wearing his ankle bracelet — and arrested him without incident, officials said.
Robinson was taken to the Allegheny County Jail. He faces arraignment on the charges from the Jan. 24 incident, the sheriff’s office said.
