A Beltzhoover man ran from the site of a shooting on Pittsburgh’s South Side, forced his way into a family’s basement and sprayed a police dog with fabric stain remover before he was arrested Tuesday night, officials said.
Deonte Donald Kidd, 26 was charged with criminal trespass, resisting arrest and taunting a police animal, and held for an outstanding warrant out of Upper St. Clair, records show. It’s unclear if Kidd had any role in the reported shooting.
Authorities were notified of a ShotSpotter alert on the 100 block of Zara Street around 9:20 p.m. Tuesday, according to Pittsburgh Department of Public Safety spokesman Chris Togneri. No injuries or property damage were reported as a result of the shooting.
The police officers who responded to the reported shooting “saw a male fleeing as police arrived on scene,” then “observed the male force his way through the closed front door of a home on Zara Street,” Togneri said.
The officers ordered anyone in the home to come outside, according to Togneri. Two adults who live there exited the residence. They told police a young girl was asleep upstairs and that nobody else should be there.
The officers entered the home, made sure nobody else was on its first or second floors, found the sleeping girl and safely brought her outside, Togneri said.
They next went into the basement and found Kidd hiding in a utility room.
After Kidd “refused multiple commands to surrender to police or show his hands,” Togneri said, “a K-9 was deployed and the male sprayed the dog in the face with laundry stain remover several times.”
After several attempts, officers apprehended Kidd.
Medics took the man to a nearby hospital to be treated for minor injuries before officials booked him into Allegheny County Jail.
Police continue to investigate the Zara Street shooting, Togneri said.
