A Bethel Park police officer was hospitalized after being struck by a motorist Tuesday night, according to police.

Officers charged a man with driving under the influence and multiple traffic violations in connection with the incident around 8:40 p.m. along South Park road near Pennsylvania Avenue, police Chief Tim O’Connor reported. The suspect was not immediately identified.

The officer was struck by the motorist’s mirror. It knocked him into a police car and the suspect’s car ran over the officer’s foot.

The chief said another officer in the area was able to stop the driver and take him into custody.

The officer who was hit was taken to a hospital for evaluation, the chief said.

No further information was immediately available.
