Pittsburgh Public Schools police officers will be conducting security searches at several district schools Thursday after threats of violence were made on social media, district officials said.

“The district is aware of threats shared via social media with students who attend Pittsburgh Allegheny 6-8 (in the North Side) and Pittsburgh Brashear High School (in Beechview) related to potential violence,” spokeswoman Ebony Pugh said in a news release.

“Out of an abundance of caution, school police are coordinating searches at Pittsburgh Brashear High School and Pittsburgh South Hills 6-8, who share a campus, and Pittsburgh Allegheny 6-8 and Pittsburgh Allegheny K-5, who also share a campus,” she said.

School police are working with other law enforcement agencies to try to identify the source of the threats, district officials said.
