A former employee of a Pine bakery faces multiple felony counts after police say he burglarized the business three months after quitting, unaware that security cameras had been installed after his departure.

Lloyd R. McCoy III, 53, of Latonka Drive in Cool Springs Township, Mercer County, was charged by the Northern Regional Police Department with felony counts of criminal trespass, theft and burglary.

He was released from custody after posting a $2,000 unsecured bond, according to court records. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 13 before District Judge William Wagner.

A Northern Regional Police Officer wrote in a criminal complaint charging McCoy that he was dispatched to the Bartram House Bakery along Village Run Road on Feb. 28 for a reported burglary.

The owner of the bakery provided police with video from a security camera that showed a man using a key to enter the business and then open a safe using the keypad, according to a criminal complaint.

Police said the man is seen taking a container of money out of the safe and then returning it empty a short time later before fleeing. The owner told police there was $2,594 in the container.

Investigators said they focused on current and former employees because the thief had a door key and the access code needed to open the safe.

Police said the suspect was wearing distinctive clothing, including multi-colored boots and a hooded sweatshirt with “Burton” written across the front.

Nearby traffic cameras show a white Acura sedan pulling in behind the bakery a short time before the burglary took place, the complaint said.

A man is seen getting out of the car and walking toward the bakery before returning a short time later and driving off, the complaint said.

Police said they viewed video from traffic cameras along Route 910 and were able to get a license plate number that was traced to McCoy.

Investigators got a warrant to search McCoy’s house for the clothing they say he was wearing on the night of the burglary.

They said the white sedan seen at the bakery was parked outside McCoy’s house and he was wearing the same muti-colored boots the man was wearing in the security video.

McCoy was interviewed by investigators at the state police station in Mercer, where police said he confessed to using a key to enter the business to steal money from the safe, according to the complaint.
