Allegheny County Police are investigating after Pittsburgh police shot and killed Austyn Cousins, 26, early Wednesday in the city’s South Side Slopes neighborhood.

Authorities have identified the man shot and killed early Wednesday by Pittsburgh police as Austyn Cousins, 26.

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office said Cousins was shot by “law enforcement officer(s)” in the 1900 block of Huron Street around 1:49 a.m.

He died less than an hour later at UPMC Mercy.

Details about the incident were sparse.

Officials said police were dispatched at 1:38 a.m. for a notification by ShotSpotter, the gunfire detection system.

An officer encountered a male outside on Huron Street, and at 1:49 a.m. police reported shots being fired, according to the Allegheny County Police Department, which is investigating.

Police said officers performed CPR.

Victor Joseph, an assistant superintendent for county police, told TribLive news partner WTAE. “The officer called out at 1:49 ‘shots fired’ and the male was down.”

Anyone with information is asked to call the county police tip line at 1-833-ALL-TIPS (255-8477). Callers can remain anonymous.
