Police: Man arrested after barricading himself in Mt. Washington home
A man was taken into custody Thursday by Pittsburgh police after barricading himself in a Mt. Washington home for about two hours.
Juan Hernandez, 53, who is listed in court documents as homeless, surrendered to authorities shortly after 8 p.m. when a SWAT team gained access to the residence along the 1200 block of West Sycamore Street.
City police attempted to serve a warrant at that home around 6:30 p.m. when the suspect, later identified as Hernandez, refused to come out.
Public Safety spokeswoman Cara Cruz said SWAT was called in due to the man’s past history of violence.
EMS and firefighters were also at the scene.
No injuries were reported.
Pittsburgh police had filed charges of disorderly conduct, stalking, harassment and defiant trespassing against Hernandez on Thursday in connection with two separate incidents earlier this month, online court documents show.
A preliminary hearing has not yet been scheduled for Thursday’s alleged offenses.
