Police: Man shot before wrecking SUV into utility pole in South Side dies at hospital

A man who crashed his SUV into a pole in the South Side after being shot early this morning has died from his injuries, according to authorities.

Emergency personnel responding to a 911 call at around 1:10 a.m. for a vehicle crash at the American Natural gas station near the intersection of East Carson Street and Arlington Avenue found Bradford McCary, 41, of Wilkinsburg suffering from a gunshot wound.

When they arrived on scene, an off-duty firefighter who was performing CPR on McCary and alerted emergency responders that he was suffering from a gunshot wound.

Medics transported McCary to Mercy Hospital in Uptown in critical condition. He was pronounced dead at 1:37 a.m., according to the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s office.

Investigators said the Jeep McCray was driving was struck by multiple gunshots before he crashed into the pole.

Police did not release any information about possible suspects or motives for the shooting, which remains under investigation.
