Police: McKeesport man charged with the murder of Karli Short and her unborn child in September

A McKeesport man has been arrested in connection with the murder of the mother of his unborn child.

Isaac Smith, 25, was taken into custody around 7 p.m. Friday by Allegheny County detectives and Pleasant Hills police.

He is charged with homicide and homicide of an unborn child in connection with the fatal shooting of Karli Short, 26, of McKeesport.

Police said Short was found shot in the head in the late morning of Sept. 13.

Through the course of the investigation, detectives determined the murder occurred around 12:20 a.m. that day.

Short was five months pregnant.

Short was a 2014 McKeesport Area High School graduate and the daughter of former Penn State standout and NFL linebacker Brandon Short.

Friends and family gathered for a memorial in Renziehausen Park in McKeesport on Sept. 23.

Smith was taken to the Allegheny County Jail in Pittsburgh.
