North Side woman shot boyfriend, dumped his body in McKees Rocks alley, police say
A woman from Pittsburgh’s North Side is accused of shooting and killing her boyfriend and then dumping his body in a McKees Rocks alley.
Brook Lynn Lank, 24, is charged with homicide and abuse of a corpse in connection with the death of 22-year-old Anthony Lofton, who was found dead in Derby Alley around 6:30 a.m. Sunday.
Allegheny County homicide detectives said they used surveillance footage and a rental car agreement to track Lank to an Econo Lodge on Steubenville Pike.
Surveillance footage from the area near where Lofton was found showed a burgundy Taurus on the McKees Rocks Bridge and on streets near Derby Alley, according to police. The Taurus was discovered to be a rental car equipped with a GPS locator, police said. The rental agreement bore Lank’s name, and the GPS led detectives to the Econo Lodge.
Investigators said they conducted surveillance on the motel and noted a number of people coming and going from one particular room, according to the complaint. They eventually pulled over a car in which Lank was a passenger. Around the same time, police said, investigators saw a man cleaning the interior of the Taurus in the motel parking lot and stopped him, fearing possible evidence would be destroyed.
The Taurus, police said, had blood stains on the front and rear passenger seats.
In an interview, Lank told police she was in a relationship with Lofton and he had threatened her with a gun Saturday before taking off with her rented car, according to the complaint. She said he came back and asked her to drive him to McKeesport to make a drug deal. She said they argued during the drive, and she took Lofton’s gun and shot him with it.
Lank said that Lofton was still breathing and reaching for her, so she shot him twice more and left him in the alley, the complaint said. She said she went back to her North Side home and cleaned up the car but told them, “I obviously did not do a very good job,” according to the complaint.
Court records did not list an attorney for Lank early Tuesday.
