The Allegheny County Police have charged a Pittsburgh man who was shot by city police with kidnapping and other crimes for allegedly holding his ex-girlfriend and their baby hostage Friday morning in Pittsburgh’s Arlington neighborhood.
Gregory Freed, 29, remains hospitalized until he can be arraigned on additional charges of unlawful restraint, aggravated assault, strangulation and terroristic threats.
County police said he was the reason Pittsburgh police were dispatched to the 2800 block of Spring Street for a report of a woman and her baby being held inside a yellow Dodge Dakota.
Officers located the vehicle along the 2900 block of Devlin Street around 9 a.m.
Police said as an officer approached the vehicle, a man, later identified as Freed, told police he had a gun.
Freed then charged at the officer threatening to shoot , according to a county police report.
The officer fired two rounds, striking Freed. He was transported to a hospital in critical condition.
The woman, only identified by police as Freed’s 32-year-old ex-girlfriend, and their baby were unharmed.
The investigation is ongoing.
