An apparent road rage incident ended in gunfire in Downtown Pittsburgh early Thursday, authorities said.

The incident happened about 12:20 a.m. near the intersection of Smithfield Street and Fort Pitt Boulevard, police said.

A man told officers he was driving behind a red Chevy Impala that was blocking two lanes, according to police. The man said he honked his car horn and when he pulled alongside the Impala, the passenger opened fire.

Police said the man was uninjured, but his car was struck twice in the rear driver’s side door. The Impala turned left onto Smithfield Street and took off into Downtown.

No other details were immediate available.
