North Versailles man dies after being hit by township snowplow truck

Authorities have identified a North Versailles man struck and killed by a snowplow truck in the midst of Wednesday’s storm.

The victim is John Vichie, 63, of North Versailles, according to the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s office.

Vichie was walking with a snow blower when he was struck by a township public works truck as it backed up in the 100 block of Union Avenue, according to county police. Police were notified of the accident at about 4:50 p.m. Wednesday.

Vichie was dead at the scene. His death was ruled an accident.

The identity of the truck driver was not released by county police.

North Versailles Township police could not be reached for comment Wednesday night.

The county’s homicide detectives and collision reconstruction unit were assisting North Versailles police in the investigation.
