One of two women shot in Pittsburgh’s Brighton Heights neighborhood Wednesday night has died, according to the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Darkale Bonner, 35, died at a hospital just before 8:30 p.m., the medical examiner’s office said. The office said Bonner died from a gunshot wound to the head and ruled the death a homicide.

The other woman, also in her 30s, was last known to be hospitalized in critical condition following the shooting in the 600 block of Brighton Woods Road shortly before 7:45 p.m.

A ShotSpotter alert reported that 10 rounds were fired, police said. Witnesses told police that some type of altercation happened before shots were fired.

Police Chief Larry Scirotto told TribLIVE news partner WTAE-TV that the suspect, who is in his 20s, surrendered. Authorities believe the man is the only person who fired a gun during the incident.

Police said a pregnant woman fell while running away. Medics helped her, but she refused being taken to a hospital.

Police were processing evidence at the scene and detectives from the violent crimes unit were investigating.
