Allegheny County Police are investigating after the body of a teenage boy was found Wednesday in a Swissvale park.

Woodland Hills High School revealed in a letter that the student was a junior. He has not been identified. Police said he was 16.

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of this young man and we offer our sincere condolences to his family and friends,” Woodland Hills Principal Phillip Woods wrote in a letter to parents.

Woodland Hills Superintendent James Harris said the school will have social workers and therapeutic sessions to help students once they are informed of the incident. Students at the high school are still taking all classes online because of the pandemic.

Authorities said they received a 911 call about 8:48 a.m. about a body in Les Getz Memorial Mark. First responders arrived and found the body, police said. He’d been shot, and homicide detectives are investigating.

More than a dozen police cars converged on the park near Church Street, according to Tribune-Review news partner WPXI-TV. The station reported that several detectives were gathered around the area around home plate on the park’s baseball field.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the county police tip line at 1-833-ALL-TIPS (1-833-255-8477).
