Port Authority: 94-year-old woman hit by ACCESS van in North Oakland

A 94-year-old woman was hit by an ACCESS van Wednesday morning in Pittsburgh’s North Oakland neighborhood.

Pittsburgh police and paramedics said they responded at about 9:30 a.m. the van struck the woman at the intersection of Fifth Avenue and North Dithdridge Street.

The woman was taken to UPMC Presbyterian with a leg injury and was in serious condition, Pittsburgh Public Safety spokesman Maurice Matthews said.

Fifth Avenue was closed between North Bellefield and North Craig Street for about two hours while police investigated, Matthews said.

No one else was hurt, he said.

ACCESS is a shared ride transit service operated in part by the Port Authority of Allegheny County.

ACCESS officials didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment. Port Authority spokesman Adam Brandolph confirmed the crash, but didn’t make further comment.
