Allegheny County detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of a woman whose body was found in a wooded area in Penn Hills in October 2021, police said Thursday.

The human remains that were found in the 1600 block of Brushton Avenue were identified in May as Stacy L. Childs, who was reported missing from Pittsburgh in February 2019, county police and the Allegheny County Medical Examiner said.

Childs’ daughter told Tribune-Review news partner WPXI on Thursday that she provided a sample of her DNA, which was used to identify the remains as her mother.

Childs, who was born in 1964, was a native of the East Hills section of Pittsburgh and was an outreach worker for Healthy Start, helping at-risk women. She also worked at worked at Bethlehem Haven, a homeless women’s shelter.

According to her obituary, she was a single mother to three children and had three grandchildren.
