One person died in a fire that broke out Sunday at an apartment building along Second Street in Brownsville.
The early-morning fire in Fayette County is believed to have started on the building’s top floor where the man who died had lived, authorities told Tribune-Review news partner WPXI-TV.
Authorities did not identify the victim.
All of the other residents were able to escape the building without injury. The Red Cross is providing assistance to about 10 people.
Brownsville Fire Chief Ron Barry told the TV station that firefighters encountered heavy flames, smoke and heat.
“Very, very difficult fire,” he said. “Very stubborn fire. And again, the layout of the building and the age of the building. There were a lot of spaces where the fire had a good head start before we got there.”
