A motorcyclist from Maryland was killed and his female passenger critically injured Sunday in a head-on collision with a car along National Pike in Henry Clay Township, Fayette County, according to state police in Uniontown.

Rick W. Campbell, 45, of Dundalk, Md., was pronounced dead at Ruby Memorial Medical Center in Morgantown, W.Va., where he was taken after the 4:47 p.m. crash, troopers said.

A passenger on his 2012 Harley-Davidson, Jessica Good, 47, of Baltimore, Md., was transported to the hospital with critical injuries, police said.

Trooper Kaylee Wietrzykowski said the 85-year-old driver of the car, Wayne E. Hager of Markleysburg, reported that he was pulling out from a parking lot on the 4600 block of the highway and looked to the west “and advised he was blinded by the sun.”

When Hager proceeded east, Wietrzykowski said he was straddling the centerline of both the eastbound and westbound lanes and collided head-on with Campbell’s westbound motorcycle.

Both Campbell and Good were thrown from the motorcycle, police said.

Hager was not injured.

The investigation is continuing.
