A Uniontown woman was killed in a two-vehicle crash in Fayette County Monday and a man was seriously injured, according to state police.

Linda L. Lewis, 76, was pronounced dead at the scene on Morgantown Road in South Union. She was the passenger in a car being driven by Bernard D. Lewis, 77, of Uniontown, police said. He was taken by medical helicopter to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va., for treatment of what police described as life-threatening injuries.

Troopers said a car being driven north at 6:15 p.m. by Krystal K. Darnell, 33, of Uniontown, crossed the center line and hit the oncoming car. Darnell, who told witnesses she had warrants out for her arrest in unrelated cases, fled the scene. She later was taken into custody by police, according to a news release. She is not charged in connection with the crash.

In 2019, Pennsylvania saw the fewest number of fatalities in vehicle crashes in the previous 92 years, according to PennDOT statistics. There were 1,059 people killed statewide in 990 crashes. A total of 125,267 crashes were reported in Pennsylvania that year.
