A woman was killed in a fire in a Peters Township house Thursday, according to Peters Township Fire Department.

Firefighters were dispatched to Spruce Drive for a house fire at 2:25 p.m., officials said. When they arrived, a woman in the front yard told responders that there was a fire inside the house and a woman still inside.

Crews entered the house and found a woman on the second floor, officials said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

TribLive news partner WTAE reported the victim was Cathleen Castagna, 67.

Officials said that by the time firefighters had arrived, the fire had burned itself out and only hot spots and smoky conditions remained.

There were no smoke detectors in the home, officials said.

The Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal Unit is investigating the blaze.

The fire department urged residents to reach out if they need help installing smoke detectors.
