The ice jams have cleared on the Allegheny River in Armstrong County, however, rain has triggered flood warnings and watches in the region.
The Army Corps of Engineers reported Monday that ice jam on the Allegheny River in the upper reaches of Armstrong County late last week has melted. The Corps are sending a team of engineers to assess damage to the locks and dams at Mosgrove and Rimer.
The entire Pittsburgh area is under a flood watch for small streams spilling over their banks in low lying areas with 1.5 to 2 inches of rainpredicted from Monday night through Tuesday, according to Pat Herald, meteorologist for the National Weather Service.
A river flood warning has been issued along the Monongahela River in Elizabeth and Charleroi. The Mon wharf is expected to flood, when water rises above 18 feet Tuesday at 5 p.m. Then, Wednesday morning at Pittsburgh’s Point, the Ohio River will approach 22 feet, closing the 10th Street Bypass, according to Herald.
