2 dead, 3 hurt when log truck hits Amish buggy in Venango County

Two people died and three others were injured Sunday when a truck hauling logs rear-ended a horse-drawn Amish buggy in Clintonville, Venango County, according to state police.

The wreck occurred shortly before 3 p.m. along Clintonville Road while the buggy carrying a family of five.

A woman and a boy were pronounced dead at the scene, according to investigators, who did not release the identity of the victims.

A man who was injured in the buggy crash was taken by medical helicopter for treatment at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Youngstown, Ohio.

A girl who was hurt was taken to Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh and a boy who was injured was treated and released from Grove City Medical Center.

The identities and extent of their injuries have not been released.

Investigators said the driver of the log truck is cooperating.

Venango County District Attorney Shawn White and county Coroner Christine Rugh also were called to the scene to assist with the investigation.
