Two men were killed Sunday in a wrong-way crash in Fayette County, according to state police.
Troopers were called to the crash on Route 40 near Morgantown Road in South Union Township at 12:45 a.m. Sunday.
Police said a Ford Taurus that was driven by Dylan Healey, 25, of Carmichaels was traveling west in the eastbound lanes of the highway near Uniontown. The car collided head-on with an eastbound Dodge Neon driven by Brian Gilchrist, 41, of Elmwood, W.Va. He and passenger Joshua Gilchrist, 18, of Elmwood, W.Va., were killed, according to information police released Wednesday on the crash.
Healey was hospitalized for treatment of what troopers described as minor injuries. Police said impaired driving is suspected to be a factor in the crash.
There have been fatalities and injuries during the past few months in several wrong-way crashes in the region.
A Washington County woman was killed last week when a man was traveling the wrong way on Interstate 70 eastbound in Washington. An Indiana County woman was killed and passenger was seriously injured Dec. 14 after investigators said she traveled the wrong way on a ramp off Route 422 in White Township.
A Westmoreland County man died in November when authorities said a minivan traveling the wrong way on Route 380 in Washington Township slammed into his car. A wrong-way crash on Interstate 79 in October resulted in a Washington County woman’s death in North Strabane.
