A Somerset man was fatally injured Thursday when the truck he was driving collided head-on with another in Somerset County.

Walter E. Herring, 72, was pronounced dead at the scene in Jefferson Township, according to state police. Police said the other driver, Mark A. Furman, 60, of Lavale, Md., was taken by ambulance to UPMC Somerset hospital with suspected minor injuries.

According to police, Herring’s eastbound Marmon truck strayed into the westbound lane of Glades Pike, striking Furman’s International Harvester truck at 10:12 a.m. near the intersection of Mt. Zion Road.

Police are continuing to investigate.
