A New Hampshire food manufacturer has recalled nearly 2,700 pounds of kielbasa sausage after inspectors determined the products could be contaminated with metal, federal officials said.

The recall applies to North Country Smokehouse ready-to-eat sausage produced on Feb. 7 and Feb. 8.

The products were shipped to retailers nationwide.

As of Monday, there were no confirmed reports of adverse reactions or illnesses, but U.S. Department of Agriculture officials advised anyone who may have the sausage stored in refrigerators or freezers to throw it out immediately.

“Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them,” the USDA said in a release. “These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.”

The potentially contaminated products include:

• 1-pound packages of North Country Smokehouse “original old-fashioned Polish-style kielbasa” with a use by date of May 9, 2019;

• 12-ounce packages of North Country Smokehouse “natural old-fashioned Polish-style kielbasa” with a use by date of April 23; and

• 1-pound packages of Kilchurn Estate smoked kielbasa with a use by date of May 9.

The products subject to the recall should include the establishment number, “EST. 5390A.”

Inspectors discovered the problem on March 18 during a routine review of consumer complaint records, USDA officials said.

The USDA announced the recall on Saturday. It’s classified as a “Class 1” recall, which means “there is a reasonable probability that the use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences.”

For more information, reach North Country Smokehouse’s quality assurance manager at 603-543-0234, ext. 207.

The USDA also offers a meat and poultry hotline for anyone with food safety questions at 1-888-674-6854.
