Four people were hospitalized in Butler County early Wednesday when state police said a woman drove her SUV into oncoming traffic and overturned the vehicle, causing a second driver to swerve into an embankment to avoid her.
Sara Brown, 20, of Butler, was driving southbound on Oneida Valley Road near Weed Road in Oakland Township around 1:50 a.m., state police said. Brown was driving with three passengers, ages 13 to 20.
Police said Brown crossed the road’s center lines, causing an oncoming vehicle driven by John McGary Jr., 50, of Northern Cambria, Cambria County, to swerve into an embankment.
Brown’s vehicle overturned and landed in the northbound lane, state police said. McGary then collided with her.
Brown and one of her passengers were taken to Allegheny General Hospital, with the third and fourth passengers going to UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh and UPMC Presbyterian hospital, state police said.
State police in Butler said all four suffered what they suspected were serious injuries. Police had no updates on their condition Wednesday afternoon.
McGary was not injured.
