A warmup is coming to the Pittsburgh region this week, along with some rays of sunshine and some rain showers that appear to defy Punxsutawney Phil’s prediction of six more weeks of winter.
Monday’s high will reach 40 degrees, which is about 10 degrees above average for this time of year, with some sunshine expected. Temperatures will only increase from there.
The Pittsburgh office of the National Weather Service tweeted that forecasts for the next 14 days suggest that above-average temperatures are more likely for Southwestern Pennsylvania.

Current forecasts show that high temperatures could reach above 60 degrees on Thursday. Other daily highs throughout this week range from the 40s to 50s.
Rain is also expected at least two days this week, with scattered showers forecasted for Tuesday and significant rainfall predicted for Thursday.
The National Weather Service said there is some uncertainty how much rain could fall Thursday, but current predictions show less than half an inch for Pittsburgh and about one-third of an inch for Latrobe.
