Western Pennsylvanians woke up to April snow showers Friday morning.

The National Weather Service station at the Pittsburgh International Airport measured one-tenth of an inch of snow. Some areas, like Saxonburg and Butler County, reported more than an inch, NWS meteorologist Lee Hendricks said.

Though it might be spring on the calendar, April snowfall is common in this region, Hendricks said.

NWS data shows April snowfalls for at least the past five years. The latest snowfall ever recorded in the region was a dusting on May 27, 1961.

Friday’s snowfall won’t stick around. Temperatures are expected to raise into the 40s by midday, hitting the 60s by Sunday.

However, the snow might not be gone for good. Temperatures are likely to drop again, and NWS is forecasting a chance of snow Tuesday night.

“It’s not quite gone, much as we would wish it otherwise,” Hendricks said.
