Butler County motorcyclist killed after striking deer along I-79
A Harmony motorcyclist was killed in a crash early Friday along Interstate 79 near the Cranberry exit.
Pennsylvania State Police in Butler said the crash happened at 5:43 a.m. just south of Route 228 in Butler County.
Police said Michael Webb, 52, was traveling southbound in the left passing lane when his motorcycle struck a deer. Webb was ejected from his motorcycle. Police said Webb was wearing a bicycle helmet. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Cranberry fire department, EMS, and UPMC Passavant assisted at the scene.
Lanes were shut down while officials attended to the scene. The road was reopened to traffic around 9 a.m.
It’s the third deer-related motorcycle crash in the past 10 days.
On Thursday, a motorcyclist went 30 feet over an embankment after striking a deer at the intersection of Pine Hill Road and Route 156 in Bell Township. Westmoreland County 911 said the male driver was found conscious with “numerous head injuries.”
On Oct. 25, two Fayette County residents were killed on the Mon-Fayette Expressway near Uniontown after their motorcycle struck a deer and hit the guardrail in North Union.
The driver, Adam R. Carney, 30, and his passenger, Savanah Stimmell, 33, both of Allison in Redstone Township, died as a result of traumatic injuries.
