At least one person is dead after a Norfolk Southern mixed-freight train struck a vehicle late Sunday night in Lawrence County.

Norfolk Southern spokeswoman Rachel McDonnell Bradshaw said the incident occurred shortly before midnight at Larchwood Drive in New Beaver. The driver of the vehicle was killed in the collision. There were no reported injuries to the train crew.

The mixed-freight train was en route to Canton, Ohio, when the incident occurred.

“At Norfolk Southern, the safety of our employees and the communities we serve is our number one priority,” McDonnell Bradshaw said in an e-mail. “Norfolk Southern advises motorists and pedestrians to stay alert around railroad tracks, and to be mindful of all warning signs and signals at railroad crossings.
