Beaver County firefighters rescue ducklings from storm drain
A brood of ducklings trapped in a Beaver County storm drain were rescued by firefighters, according to a video posted on the Chippewa Township Fire Department’s Facebook page.
The video, posted Sunday, shows a firefighter in the drain carefully picking up the ducklings and placing them into a plastic bin being held by a second firefighter. After all 10 were freed, they huddled together in the bin before being reunited with their mother in a grassy area, according to posts on the department’s page.
Ducklings can fall through grates because the mother duck doesn’t realize the danger to the smaller birds, according to Rutgers University’s Wildlife Conservation and Management Program.
