Bhavini Patel ends her run for Congress in 12th District
Edgewood Councilwoman Bhavini Patel said Friday she is ending her campaign for Congress in Pennsylvania’s 12th District.
Patel was one of four Democratic candidates running in the newly drawn district that stretches from Pittsburgh to Westmoreland County. She launched her campaign in January.
“The campaign didn’t gain the momentum needed for a short runway to Election Day,” said Patel.
A Monroeville native and Edgewood resident, Patel was seeking to become Pennsylvania’s first Indian-American member of Congress.
Congressional candidates are in the process of the required gathering signature petitions to run.
The remaining Democratic candidates in the 12th District include University of Pittsburgh law professor Jerry Dickinson, attorney Steve Irwin and state Rep. Summer Lee.
