Biden to visit Pittsburgh on Wednesday
President Joe Biden plans to travel to Pittsburgh on Wednesday, where he is expected to unveil his vision for a massive infrastructure bill.
The proposal is said to be larger than the $1.9 trillion covid relief package that the Congress passed earlier this month.
Biden said in his first press conference on Thursday that he would provide details of his plan to rebuild both the physical infrastructure — roads and bridges — and the technological infrastructure.
The president touted the proposed spending package as creating “significant numbers of really good-paying jobs.”
The administration was able to get a $1.9 trillion covid relief package passed earlier this month on a strictly partisan vote.
Biden has not revealed how he intends to pay for what is expected to be a multi-trillion spending package at a time when the economy is recovering the yearlong pandemic-inflicted damage to the economy.
Bloomberg has reported that Biden’s administrations is considering proposal to pay for the spending by raising the corporate tax rate, upping the income tax rate on those with incomes of more than $400,000 and a higher capital-gains tax rate for those earning at least $1 million.
Biden will be visiting Pittsburgh against a backdrop of the growing immigration crisis on the border with Mexico, where unaccompanied minors are seeking asylum.
A heated battle is expected to occur over an expanded Voting Rights Act aimed at stemming the tide of measures making it harder to vote, such as one passed in Georgia.
