Blairsville police are searching for a “porch pirate” who stole a package of pet food and toys on Monday from a home in the Indiana County borough.

The theft occurred at about 1:45 p.m. at South Brady and East Brown streets, according to police Chief Lou Sacco.

Police have posted on their Facebook page a video clip from a camera across the street that shows the theft occurring in the distance.

A description of the suspect wasn’t available.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Blairsville police at 724-459-7555.

Police offered tips for preventing theft of delivered items:

• Install security cameras and motion-activated lighting.

• Provide instructions for a deliverer to leave a package in a less visible spot.

• Use a lockable box or locker where deliverers can secure shipped items.

• Have deliveries routed to one’s workplace or a trusted neighbor.

• Request signature on delivery for a shipment of high value or importance, to ensure someone is there to accept it.

• Sign up for delivery notifications and tracking, to know when a package is on its way and when it has arrived.
