A boy and a man were treated and released at area hospitals after being involved in an altercation late Saturday that resulted in the boy being shot in the leg at a Washington County movie theater.

The man, from Greene County, whom police didn’t identify, suffered unspecified injuries in the scuffle, according to Trooper Forrest Allison, public information officer for state police at the Washington County station.

As of noon Sunday, no charges were filed in the incident, Allison said.

According to state police, the boy, who was wounded in his lower leg, was one of six teenage boys who reportedly caused a disturbance at about 11:57 p.m. Saturday in the Regal Cinemas at Washington Crown Center on West Chestnut Street in North Franklin Township.

Police said other patrons asked the boys to stay in their seats and be quiet after they were repeatedly moving around the theater and changing their seats.

The Greene County man became involved in a physical altercation with the boys after telling them to stop the disturbance. Police said the confrontation moved into the hallway of the theater, where the man pulled out a firearm and a struggle for the weapon ensued.

The firearm discharged, striking one boy in the leg, police said.

Police, who are continuing their investigation, asked that anyone who was at the theater at the time and can provide information call the state police station at 724-223-5200.
