The Postal Service will issue its Wild and Scenic Rivers stamps May 21 with the Clarion River as one of a dozen Forever stamps paying tribute to “the exceptional streams that run freely through America’s natural landscapes.”

The Clarion River, a tributary of the Allegheny, was in the news last year when it was voted Pennsylvania’s 2019 River of the Year.

The Clarion runs for 110 miles from central Elk County to where it joins the Allegheny River, a few miles south of Emlenton. It has been designated part of the National Wild and Scenic River program.

The Wild and Scenic Rivers stamps to be released next month are featured in a pane of a dozen designs with photographs representing the more than 200 rivers or river segments designated within the Wild and Scenic Rivers System, according to the Postal Service.

In December, the Postal Service announced that the river would be featured as part of the 2019 Forever Stamp Wild and Scenic Rivers collection, according to the Explore Clarion website.

Customers can purchase stamps and other philatelic products through the Postal Store at, by calling 800-STAMP24 (800-782-6724), by mail through USA Philatelic catalog or at post offices nationwide.
