Company ignites fury by naming unscented candle 'Ohio'
Ohio residents might think this new candle stinks.
Simple Nature, an Indiana candle company, is offering an unscented option that pokes fun at their neighboring state.
“Not much to see. Not much to do. Welcome to Ohio, the unscented candle,” is the tagline for the aroma-free cylinder of white soy wax.
A promotional tweet from Simple Nature shows the Ohio candle and says “Fresh batch of nothing getting shipped out.”
The company offers $15.95 candles with a wide variety of scents, many named for places. Simple Nature describes their Chicago candle as smelling of “Caramel and Popcorn” while Cincinnati evokes “Oakmoss and Amber.”
Lydia Mihalik promotes tourism in Ohio and couldn’t resist defending the smell of her home state.
Sooo many great scents in Ohio. Allow me to enlighten these Hoosier chandlers. [Thread] https://t.co/9iqQQMqPIY
